And In This Corner! Lacewell vs. Steinem

February 2, 2008 by souloperator

The following is a four part debate with Melissa Harris Lacewell and Gloria Steinem on Democracy Now. Ms. Steinem’s recent op-ed piece in the New York Times,”Women Are Never Front-Runners”, was the catalyst. Princeton Professor, Melissa Harris Lacewell gives a straight-no-chaser reaction to the op-ed article and dishes one of the loudest back hand blows heard around the world. This is hands down one of the best debates around race and gender in politics and where they intersect. This debate is a direct clash between 2nd and 3rd wave feminism; and all discussed within the context of the most thrilling Presidential race this country has ever seen. Please read the op-ed piece and watch all 4 parts and we look forward to your comments.

Melissa Harris Lacewell is an incredibly inspiring Sister and scholar. This was a necessary encounter to clarify some major distortions regarding the intersections, or perhaps better said “co-formations” of race and gender in the U.S.
I really enjoyed this oh so necessary debate. Thank-you U People!!!
