Is she a model?

I have a few vices. One of which is America’s Next Top Model. I know I am not the only queer in the room saying “Amen”. I watch with bated breath each ten minute interval (on Youtube, of course) of the two hour premiere. America’s Next Top Model has taken the place of beauty pageants in my world. I remember watching America compete against itself and the world for the title of prettiest girl. Now the possibly most interesting girl is the beautiful Isis hailing from NY.  She photographs beautifully, is gracious, smart, tough and was born male. She is in fact pre-operative. Now what does this say about the show? Is this a stride in the right direction of transgender equality or is it a yet another blow to the little girls who may look at Isis’ tall willowy frame that is even more unattainable than the other models. No bio girl alive is going to have hips that narrow with shoulders that defined. All the better to hang a dress from. I like the show because I like that Tyra does all these inane stunts amid what seems to be a strangely performative self work.  What is she working on with Isis?
