The U People Podcast is a weekly adventure in the life and times of Olive Demetrius and Hanifah Walidah. With each episode, the ladies introduce the I Love U People community to innovators, entrepreneurs and artists who create life according to their own rules.

Whether exploring their favorite Brooklyn haunts, discussing black lesbian astrology and the magic of hand-blended teas or interviewing ground-breaking performance and visual artists from around the globe, Olive and Hanifah generously share their world with fierce passion, humor and love.

Dr. G Love

Are you unsure about your sexuality (or her sexuality) and curious how to best approach the situation?

Whatever’s on your mind, send your questions to Dr. G Love. A trained Naprapathy, Dr. G Love is more than just a doctor. She’s a holistic healer committed to helping you live your best life. By listening deeply and approaching your questions on physical, emotional and spiritual levels, Dr. G Love gently and graciously helps you evolve your whole self into who you really want to be.

Brooklyn Girl In…

As front woman for Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Haniah performs a rare blend of hip-hop, funk and jazz in front of enthusiastic audiences all over the planet. Brooklyn Girl In… is a firsthand look at her life off the stage, connecting with the people she meets along the way.

Using a small, hand-held video camera, Hanifah peruses the streets, coffee shops and social circles, actively engaging with straight and queer women of the African diaspora from all walks of life. By traveling from Sweden to Morocco, Hanifah exposes us to dynamic new voices, people and stories we might otherwise never know.

None on Record

None on Record: Stories of Queer Africa is a sound documentary project that collects the stories of queer, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (QLGBT) Africans from the African Continent and the Diaspora. None on Record adds to the growing histories told by QLGBT Africans all over the world. QLGBT Africans are everywhere—within the neighborhoods of Dakar, Toronto, Nairobi, New York City and London and in the small towns and villages of African countries.

This revolutionary venture is inspired by FannyAnn Eddy, an LGBT activist from Sierra Leone, West Africa who was brutally assassinated in 2004, in the offices of the Sierra Leone Lesbian and Gay Association. Determined to create a far-reaching, accessible and empowering archive, None on Record documents the hopes, struggles, challenges and joys of being a QLGBT African.

U People Music

It also takes advantage of the wealth of amazing live music that we will bring to you either live or pre-recorded.

Out of Frame

Out of Frame is completely ruled by the visionary eye Olive Demetrius! Filmmaker and photographer, Olive Demetrius challenges you to see the world and yourself out of the usual frames and boxes that people are placed. Out of Frame focuses on filmmakers, photographers and unique individuals within the mediums that think and act outside of the box.

Salt and Sugar

Salt and Sugar is where pop and politics are intersect. These days there is little shame in deconstructing both. they both have their equal share at our kitchen tables and bars. Together with a small army of smart people we will collect daily links, videos, articles and opinion pieces from just outside our domain and bring them to back home to you.

U People Story Archive

When was the last time you felt like you didn’t belong? Like you were in the wrong place, the wrong time, the wrong skin or expressing the wrong sexual preference? Have you ever told anyone? If so, how did you feel when you were done?

Maybe you’ve never talked about it. Similarly, maybe you’ve never asked anyone how they felt when you created a comparable experience for them. Whichever side of the line you’re more familiar with, it’s safe to say, we’ve all known what it feels like to be Other.

The U People Story Archive is an opportunity to bear witness as people share their experiences of feeling like outcasts both within and outside of their communities. Cutting across class, race, sex and sexuality, The U People Story Archive is an incredible opportunity to heal, learn and embrace.
