About this card?
The U People Mixtape Card is brought to you by ILoveUPeople.com in support of the film U People directed by Hanifah Walidah and Olive Demetrius. This card is a monthly subscription to an entire year of mixes by some of best WoMen DJs from around the world and featuring an eclectic mix of new independent music, U People film bites, U People Stories, as seen in the podcast, and a bit of the music that we were all suckled on. This card celebrates the voice of women and the kaleidescope of sounds they bring to music. How to use the card?
Once you sign in with your code (provided on the back of the card), you will next be required to submit your email address (you will only be asked for your email once), you will then be able to download this current month’s mixtape mp3 on to your desktop, Itunes, IPod or any other Mp3 player. You will be notified via email at the top of each month that a new mix is available for download.

U People documents the humor, tensions, and tenderness shared among this eclectic group of often misunderstood individuals who one day joined forces on a less than typical music video shoot. 30 lesbians, straight women and trans folks of color together in a Brooklyn brownstone for 2 days. More than one camera was rolling and more than music was caught on tape. The documentary dares to echo the oft despised question “who are you people?” to which the unabashed heroines and heroes candidly shout back.

What is the U People Mixtape?
While collecting the songs that are featured on the soundtrack for the film U People we realized that there is a world of music out there created by women that deserve what ever light be falls them. These people are on the independent grind like everyone else and at the same time run a tight ship regarding business and generating prolific amounts of music and product. Artists featured here at I Love U People is a growing collection of progressive women artists across genre’s whose music reflect the theme and pulse of the film. This list of artist and music continues to grow into a family and network of women of color whose independent artistry set new innovative standards within music. Every month we will feature new women artists and DJs on our U People Mixtape Download Card. Once receiving the card you would use your special code on the back to access these mixes as one MP3. The card is your pass to a year long subscription to download mixtapes associated with U People the movie. You can currently get these cards by patronizing U People events or select venues in NYC.
How do I get my music featured on an U People Mixtape?
The only requirements is that you either identify as a woman or be a woman oriented gender queer individual. If you wish to have your music featured email us a link to your music or myspace page at upeople_soundtrack@suckaforlife.com. PLEASE DO NOT ATTACH MP3S.

NOTE: All submission emails must be accompanied by name and contact information. This is not an open mic. To be considered for the mixtape your music will be required to have a certain level of audio quality, music production, a distinctive sound and some lyrical savvy.
